Estimating inter-group interaction radius for point processes with nested spatial structures

چکیده
A statistical procedure is proposed in order to estimate the interaction radius between points of a non-stationary point process when the process can present local aggregated and regular patterns. The model under consideration is a hierarchical process with two levels, points and clusters of points. Pointswill represent individuals, clusterswill represent groups of individuals. Points or clusters do not interact as soon as they are located beyond a given interaction radius, and are assumed to interact if their distance is less than this interaction radius. Interaction radius estimation is performed in the following way. For a given distance, observations are split into several clusters whose in-between distances are larger than this distance. For each cluster, a neighbourhood and an area inwhich this cluster is randomly located is defined under the assumption that the distance between the cluster and its neighbourhood is larger than the interaction radius. The p-value of a test of this assumption is then computed for each cluster. Modelling the expectation of this p-value as a function of the distance leads to an estimate of the interaction radius by a least-square method. This approach is shown to be robust against non-stationarity. Unlikemost classical approaches, this method makes no assumption on the point spatial distribution inside the clusters. Two applications are presented in animal and plant ecology. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Moment estimation methods for stationary spatial Cox processes - a comparison
In the present paper we consider the problem of fitting parametric spatial Cox point process models. We concentrate on the moment estimation methods based on the second order characteristics of the point process in question. These methods represent a simulation-free faster-to-compute alternative to the computationally intense maximum likelihood estimation. We give an overview of the available m...
متن کاملEstimating the inter-story drift in high rise buildings with the flexural and shear cantilever beam and mode-acceleration method
In this study, the seismic inter-story drift of structures is estimated by a combination of mode-acceleration equations with the modelling of high-rise buildings with flexural and shear cantilever beams. In the equation presented for calculating the inter-story drift, having less knowledge of the building is adequate and this issue is of significance in estimating the nonstructural component fo...
متن کاملTESTING FOR “RANDOMNESS” IN SPATIAL POINT PATTERNS, USING TEST STATISTICS BASED ON ONE-DIMENSIONAL INTER-EVENT DISTANCES
To test for “randomness” in spatial point patterns, we propose two test statistics that are obtained by “reducing” two-dimensional point patterns to the one-dimensional one. Also the exact and asymptotic distribution of these statistics are drawn.
متن کاملEvaluation of Seismic Behavior of Steel Moment Resisting Frames Considering Nonlinear Soil-structure Interaction
In structural analysis, the base of structures is usually assumed to be completely rigid. However, the combination of foundation and the subsurface soil, makes in fact a flexible-base for the soil-structure system. It is well-known that the structural responses can be significantly affected by incorporating the Soil-structure Interaction (SSI) effects. The aim of the present study is to provide...
متن کاملThe Effect of Station Density and Regional Division on Spatial Distribution of Daily Rainfall
Rainfall is one of the most important climatic variables in the hydrology cycle. In flood estimation as well as environmental pollution studies in medium to large watersheds not only mus temporal pattern of rainfall t be known, but also the knowledge of its spatial distribution is required. Estimation of daily rainfall distribution without comparison and selection of suitable methods may lead...
